Здраво! Јас сум Белла од Хамбург, Германија.
(Hello! I am Bella from Hamburg, Germany.)

Macedonia – no place I would rather be right now!

Upon completing secondary school in June 2012 I did not feel quite ready to enter university - and encouraged by the great experience of a year abroad in the US I decided to take a gap year again. Initially I did not plan to go to the Balkans, but I am more than glad it turned out this way. I don't want to miss the chance to explore this interesting, but unfortunately sometimes underestimated part of Europe. Here I find a refreshing contrast to my previous stressful student life. And I believe that most Germans, me included, can learn a lot from Macedonian happiness and hospitality.
For nine months (09/2012 until 05/2013) I together with Arnaud, a French EVS volunteer (who believes he is a dog, but makes "miau" - very interesting kid) , will work for the DO RIGHT magazine, a publication by students for students. The rest of the day I usually spend together with the other volunteers – we are a crazy group! During the wintertime Struga is not the liveliest place, but I am sure that I will not get bored once: fancy dinner nights, pillow fights, games, all sorts of “interesting” dares and good books make the time pass quickly.
Besides, I enjoy this region very much as it offers great opportunities for all sorts of activities. So far I engaged in hiking, mountain biking and jogging; and I can't even decide whether I am more exited for the winter - snowboarding and winter walks – or the summer – swimming, diving and boating on Lake Ohrid – to come.
Thinking about it, nine months may not even be enough. We just returned from the EVS on-arrival training in Sarajevo, where we met many other volunteers placed in the Balkans. We build up a broad network for traveling which I cannot wait to start using..

Пријатно!
(Bye!)
